From Feners to Bonner through the Fraus path

Feners and Bonner are two villages of medieval origin at the top of the Valls river. The isolation of these lands marked their fate: Feners on foot from the Saldes to Gósol road, which is still alive today; of Bonner, however, only a few walls remain, the insulation here is greater. They are joined by two paths, the Fraus road through the old Fraumir castle and the Gósol road to Berga. The union of these two roads forms this route that runs through wild lands that seem to allow to return for a while, in the past.

Description
The route starts at Feners, an architectural complex of medieval origin (13th century) consisting of different dwellings, porches and the chapel of Sant Antoni (18th century), located on a raised platform surrounded by old cultivated fields and meadows. The ensemble has been the result of an evolution over time that caused modifications to the original medieval structure.

You have to start by following the track that goes down south, in the direction of the river Valls water, where you will find a fork of paths and you will connect with the Camí dels Bons Homes (GR 107), a route that connects Berga with the Ariège (Occitania). Just after the bridge that crosses the stream of Rúixol, continue following the main GR and therefore follow the track that climbs to the left. The return will make the variant (GR 107.1) along the track that continues along the river.

You will pass some farms and at the next crossroads you should continue to the right. A few meters later you will find the fork where you have to leave the GR and follow the yellow markings on the Camí del Berguedà Network. Notice the dry stone walls that border the beams, an indicator of the work that had been done on these lands in the past. It is a nice path through the forest, with some clearing. At the next crossroads you will also have to go to the right, and soon, already completely immersed in this pine forest, you will see the path narrowing and it becomes a path and the unevenness here very flat, it will begin to be upload. When you are at the highest point, in front of you is a small hill that once housed the Fraumir Castle (13th century), of which now only a piece of the fortification wall is left on a rock full of vegetation. The site is documented from the s. XII as one of the limits of a sale within the castle of Gósol. In 1196, William of Fraumir is documented and the lineage extends throughout the s. XIII, time when the castle was built.
The road becomes flatter and eventually descends until you find the Bonner track that follows the GR 107.1. Before starting your return to Feners, the proposal is to follow it to the left to the uninhabited Bonner, where its hermitage of Santa Eulàlia de Bonner, a Romanesque church from the s. XII. His isolated situation led to his abandonment. The church remained standing until the end of the 19th century. XX but today also presents a ruinous state. It is a charming, cozy, very sunny and charming place that offers spectacular panoramic views due to the large opening to the south where the Aigua de Valls valley opens. The coast that rises on the other side also houses other small villages, such as Moripol, which has also been completely abandoned, and Vilacireres farther south, where some houses have suffered worse and have recently been restored as rural accommodation, Can Blanc de Vilacireres.

If you continue uphill you can reach the old mining village of Peguera, but this itinerary proposes you to return to the Güell mill. So you have to undo the small stretch of track that you have made up here and continue along it, going down to the river. You will pass the Castellar pass and you will find a fork to access the Cabradís bridge, a place of great beauty where the river has dug a mine in the rock. If you decide to extend the route to get closer, you need to know that this is not an easy road, you have to clear some sections and especially be aware of the risk of avenues that could complicate the route.

Once you reach the river, you will see below a small hydroelectric power station that supplies the river Valls, and the former farmhouse above was restored and now inhabited. On the right hand side there is also a small abandoned farmhouse, La Feixeta, which is also part of the small village that is established around the Molí d'en Güell, which you will soon find on the river. It is an old flour mill built in the late s. XVII, which reproduces the structure of a classic farmhouse. He was very active throughout the s. XIX and until the beginning of the s. XX, at which time it was modernized, becoming a real flourmaker. It was abandoned shortly after the Civil War. At the same time as the mill, the old bridge on the old Gósol road to Berga was also built; The road is now replaced by the track you have followed, and you can see how a modern concrete bridge has been attached to the old bridge so that vehicles can pass.

Once you cross the river, take a turn until you return to the main track at Feners. You need to follow it now upstream. Along the way you will see the canal that supplies the small hydroelectric power station and you will pass through the grandfather's tunnel, and shortly afterwards on the Malpas bridge. It is a much more open road than you followed on the other side, and you will have views of the river until you reach the junction again with the GR 107. At this point you will only have to climb to Feners along the same track that you downloaded at the beginning of the route.
