The rural art par excellence full of symbolism and color
The Romanesque is the most widespread architectural and pictorial current and best known in Catalonia and Berguedà, a fairly homogeneous current that was developed in today's western Europe from the 18th century to the thirteenth century.
Small churches built by our ancestor craftsmen in the most inhospitable places; churches that laid the foundations of the current churches; interesting monasteries and churches perfectly restored and conditioned for visiting. You will find during your visit some recollections of this splendid period when faith made real the most unimaginable. A legacy that the Berguedà has managed to preserve.
At the moment in the Berguedà there are eleven of pre-Romanesque and Romanesque churches, of which 5 are open to the public all the year and managed by Civitas Cultura, so that you can enjoy and know some of the most important works of this current in Catalonia, which are the Monestir de Sant Llorenç, Sant Quirze de Pedret, Sant Sadurni de Rotgers, Sant Vicenç de Rus i Sant Vicenç d'Obiols.
The other six churches can also be visited asking for the keys in each one of the places indicated by each church; Santa Maria de Lillet, Santa Maria de Serrateix, Sant Jaume de Frontanyà, Sant Martí de Puig-Reig, Sant Andreu de Sagàs and Santa Maria d'Avià.
