Come into a real coal mine
Located in the mining colony of Sant Corneli, the Museu de les Mines de Cercs shows how it was living and working in a coal mine. Through a mining railway, 450 m from the Sant Romà gallery are visited. The audiovisual that introduces us to the visit explains the history of coal mining in Berguedà and the great economic and social importance that it had for many years.
We also invite you to visit Dinosaurs Fumanya where there are various activities that help us learn and experience with the youngest about the lives of these beings that disappeared 65 million years ago, in the end of the Cretaceous. The period in which the lignite was formed and the Pyrenees were lifted. It is extraordinary to understand in a very close way this relationship between geology, mining and palaeontology: between the Pyrenees, dinosaurs and coal.
The site of Fumanya, in the municipality of Fígols, was declared a Cultural Good of National Interest (BCIN) in 2014, and is part of the candidature that aspires to be UNESCO's natural heritage of Humanity, together with other sites of icnites of the Iberian peninsula.
